True, but I don't recomend people buy windows xp on their new machines
either for just that reason. People complain about driver issues in vista
and rightly so, but windows xp sp3 broke a whole lot more than int fixed
and those issues are never going to be fixed in all likelyhood.
64 bit support in windows xp was a morbid joke, and we don't have access to
it anyway, which means we're building $2000 computers according to specs
that were current in 2008 so we can justify putting windows xp on them.
I'm not saying the new stuff is in all ways better. I'm just saying at
what point do you weigh the long term cost vs benefit and say, "it's time
to move on from this thing?" Unfortunately that time has come for some
very excellent products that served us extremely well.
