Hi, I guess I am not understanding the problem. Windows screen readers
read the window title as a new window is created. This is important to let
you the user know where you are in the application. For example inbox
Microsoft outlook. This tells you that you are in the Microsoft outlook
program and that the active folder is the inbox. If this information was
not provided to you how would you know what program you were in what section
of the program etc. now you find a message you want to read you press
enter. Now you here x message html. Or plain text. This lets you know that
you opened a message and its formatting.
If your working in goldwave and you are working with a file called the end
you will hear gold wave the end.mp3 this tells you that the gold wave
program is open and the file active in the sound view is called the end.
I guess I just don't understand why you would not want this information
read. Now you open the save as dialog and you here save as. Now you know
the dialog where you can save the end file to something else. Sure you could
turn window title reading off but what would be the point. Now when new
windows are created you will not know what they are and you will find
yourself hitting the window title command just to hear what you would have
herd automatically before.
Also let's say you decided to only have part of the window title read. How
do you decide on a generic bases what to read. Ok we have a MDI client. So
we could in this case say ok only read the title of the document window and
not the main client window. So in the case of word you would here.
Document 1 the end. Microsoft word would not be herd. But when you get out
of the case of MDI clients how does window-eyes decide what titles to read.
Ok let's take skype. This is not a MDI client so how do we decide what is
read. Outlook is not a MDI client so how do we decide that you just want to
hear the folder name? or do you just want to hear the name of the
application. Well they are the same title bar so how does window-eyes know
where the folder name starts. So what is read is the title of the new
window as it is created. This way you always know where you are and you can
then act accordingly.
When I already know what is going to happen when I issue a command I can
always tell window-eyes to stop speaking and act on what I know is there.
Sorry not trying to be hard to get along with but ever scence my first
screen reader back in 1992 this is the way they have all worked and I don't
see any reason to change it now.

Hi Kevin,

This problem is also giving me sore ears in Thunderbird particulily
since installing the beta. Each time enter is pressed to open a
message, the message subject, Mozilla Thunderbirdand the number of links
is spoken. I was not aware of it in the previous 7.11.

If titles are turned off in verbosity, activated, then the title is not
spoken when the WE control panel is opened. If I do as you suggest and
set up a window around the titlebar and silence it, then some of my auto
hotkey macros will not be able to read the titlebar when switching from
one account to another. In short, if GW Micro does not change things
from their end it appears I'll be stuck with hearing the extra verbage
each time a message is opened.

Using: WXPH SP3, latest TB and Tripletalk USB also tried Dectalk.
Neville.
