Connie,

While it might be worth trying to plug your cassette player into the Microphone 
jack, you could experience more problems than background noise.  You could find 
that the results are distorted regardless of the level you set.  Some 
microphone inputs do have a "boost" or "attenuate" setting in the Volume 
Control settings, and 
this could help.  Further, many microphone jacks on computer sound cards are 
not stereo.  If you are recording music or other program material that was 
recorded in 
stereo, you may only get one of the channels.  

There are some fairly inexpensive devices that can connect to a USB port that 
will provide more flexibility and will do a reasonable job.  If you have a 
BookSense, 
you might consider recording on the book sense and then copying your files to 
your PC for further conversion.  Gold Wave could then be used to edit the 
files.  I 
would not suggest doing this with the VR Stream, though.
