I have used Eset for a number of years, both under XP with Window-eyes and under windows 7 with window-eyes as well. I have found it to be stable and not to put any noticeable drag on the system. Do you have another security software program installed at the same time that it might be conflicting with? If I were having your experiences I would not want it either, but I am suggesting that maybe there is an issue that is not just the fault of Eset. At one time in order to see if it was causing an unrelated problem, I uninstalled it and installed Microsoft security esentials and right away noticed a huge drag on the system in comparison even after MSE was done with its initial scan. So for the person that suggested that MSE is the end all solution and blindly favoring MSE with no comparison, my findings in that comparison were much different. In addition, eset allows you to decide to temperarily allow some inbound or outbound traffic, not just block or unblock unconditionally.
