In the control panel, under synthesizers, the synthesizer of choice is
default, which is the thx tru studio pc. Other options are real speak
speakers and real speak digital output; we have tried them all without
success.
I phoned Aaron at GW Micro again. He suggested trying the Narrator, which
is part of Windows 7. The Narrator does not work, although it comes up
visually on the screen. It appears that the problem is with the system from
Dell.
We phoned Dell. No problems were found through file sharing. It was
confirmed, however, that Narrator does not work. Dell reformatted the hard
drive, restored their system, and Narrator still does not work. We are now
waiting for someone else from Dell to contact us.
Did I mention that I really, really dislike banging my head against the
wall?

Look at which sound card choice is selected under the synthesizer
selection options.

I have a new Dell pc with Windows 7 home premium, McAfee, and the cd for
Window-Eyes 7.2.We chose not to use a password at start up.I am,
however, using my old computer. On the old pc, I have had no problems
with McAfee.
My husband set up the Dell computer, went on the Internet, listened to
some music, and set up email. We then attempted to install Window-Eyes.
The computer asked if I wanted to allow the program to make changes to
the computer; we said “yes”.Window-Eyes would not install with voice, so
my husband took over.We did the quick install and rebooted the pc.There
was an icon at the bottom of the screen, but no speech.Hitting
control-alt-w created a ping with the message that Window-Eyes was
already running. We went into the control panel and tried to change the
synthesizer, first to eloquence and then to sapi. Each time we got the
message that the program was not responding.
We next removed Window-Eyes, rebooted the computer, turned off “real
time scanning” in McAfee, and tried another install. The result was the
same as above.
Needless to say, we tried the same process several times; there is
absolutely no speech. For now, we are switching the FIOS cable from one
pc to the other depending who wants to use which computer. We got the new
computer because this old one is dying. Can anyone help before we have to
spend even more money at the computer store?
