Greetings:

To those who claim you don't have problems with WE and surfing the 'net, as others have said, it depends on what you're trying to do and what browser(s) you're using.

There's a serious lack of ARIA support, and I see a lot of code exposed on sites that JFW doesn't expose. I'm quite confident that GWMicro knows what I mean and why these problems persist; unfortunately, I'm no longer in a position to wait for WE to return to the cutting edge.

As GWMicro also knows, some sites with perfectly valid semantic markup, such as headings, do not render properly with Window-Eyes, so WE does not give me the accurate representation of a site that I need in order for me to provide reliable testing results to those who pay my bills. I guess there may be an update to fix this, but I was very disappointed to observe this problem. By all means, if I've missed this update to WE 7.5, please let me know off list.

In my experience, you may not actually realize what you're missing until you try a site with your browser(s) and JFW.

Since I do Web accessibility testing for my job, I can't afford to wait any longer for the hoped for improvements, such as with ARIA support, so I've finally resigned myself to the need to buy JFW, as sad as that makes me.

It's easy to dismiss the need to have to buy a second screen reader when many have Rehab., or an employer, as a source of cash for purchasing it; not everyone does.

As always, I'm wishing GWMicro the best, but I have to remain competitive, and the differences between the two screen readers have simply become too significant.

And for the Mac fans, I'm probably going there, too; I'll be joining the land of Fusion, but learning and buying JFW are my first priorities.

I also realize all too well that I'm an edge case, when it comes to GWMicro's typical audience(s), but given my longtime loyalty to the product, I thought I'd add my experience. I suspect most in my position quietly bought JFW a long time ago.

Best,
Jennifer
