Don,

New PCs which ship with Windows Vista and above are required to also include a standard Windows 7 installation disk. There is no need to purchase another Windows 7 license as you have already paid for it.

Steve

You have now explained a lot. GW does its testing on non real word

GW should include a fresh copy of Windows with every release of WE.
Sounds unreasonable doesn't it just like saying that users should do the
same.

Sandra,

The problem with recommending one brand over another is that new
computer models come out every few weeks. One make and model of a PC
which might blow the competition away in terms of stability and feature
set one day may only last for a few months. After that, the next
iteration could be a complete disaster. I know I personally have
switched computer brands depending on varying circumstances at the times
I needed to replace a machine. One thing which helps the majority of the
time is to re-image any OEM computer you purchase with a fresh,
unmodified copy of Windows. The other participants in this thread have
mentioned the pre-installed junk which comes with these machines. Not
once have I ever seen any benefit from having this cruft around, and
often times this third-party software will severely impact the machine's
stability. Completely wiping the hard drive and starting from a fresh
copy of Windows along with any required hardware drivers will
drastically improve your overall PC experience. The brand and model of
our workstations is therefore not relevant as they have all had the
fresh Windows treatment and work very well for us.

Just some food for thought.

So chris, what Kind do you have. Maybe if GW doesn't wantto tell us
exactly what to buy, they could at least share with us the brands they
use that they don't have problems with. I know they use to work with
Tisheba. I thought about getting that one or a Lynovo. The last time I
have a gateway, was on Windows 98 here at work. Since the3n we have
had dell here and I have a dell at home.

Whenever possible i steer clear of HP and even dell computers. You
guys would not believe all the crap they put on these machines when
you first buy them! popup adds, free offers, 30 day trials of
antivirus software that goes so deep in the registry that most people
can ever completely uninstall it, it's a mess. My girlfriend got a
netbook recently and it took me about 2 and a half hours to get rid of
all the free junk they put on it. So let's not blame all the problems
on window-eyes. My advice is to take a look at what programs are
running and if you notice that wineyes crashes when that program runs,
the best solution is to get rid of said program. There's no way on
earth i can tell you what it is, but yes, hp is the worst...I've also
seen the audio service shut down for no reason. it's nuts.

HP, yeah, tell me about it. I work with an HP server sometimes, and

I know that Johnye Pryor, who is on this list, was using an HP and
she just went back to a Dell. We use to always have more problems
with speech on HP computers here at work.

Hey maybe we should look at this from another angle. For those that
are having the most problems what brand is the computer giving the most
problems. For example, isit HP, Dell, or what?

I have to agree here,I am running WE 7.5.2 on three computers and are
not having any of the problems. One is a Dell XP, one a Compaq XP and
a Gateway laptop with Win 7.

yes, i would agree, i think it has more to do witht he machine then
with win eyes, i am running iwn eyes 7.0 on a dell xps xp desktop
machine, no problem, and 7.5.1, and 7.5 on a toshiba techra laptop,
and hp persario, and have absolutley no problems with the
functionality of win eyes. i would lean toward a potential restore of
your machines, or, maybe its got a hidden virus which i have had
before.

Andy,

why do you think so few people seem to feel the way you do? Do you
think
it
possibly could be something on your pc? I'd say most of the rest of us
feel
it's as stable as it ever was, and the benefits of the scripting is
just
enormous.

WE has become so unstable on the two machines that I have
access to that I have pretty much stopped using it. I just
don't have the time to keep rebooting and to jump through all
the hoops, etc. Two weeks ago I had an HD crash on this
machine, and I haven't yet bothered to reinstall WE on
it. Perhaps I'll revisit it when a major upgrade comes
around. Personally, I think the problems began with WE
version 7.0 and the scripting capability. What we gained from
the scripts, or apps, as they're now called, we lost in
stability. WE can no longer lay claim to being rock solid.
Now, it's as flaky as a teen age girl.

Andy

Hi. It sounds like an uninstall and a re-install might be in
order for you. WE is a great screen-reader but trust me,
it's a walk in the park compared to what I had to go through
when I was using the others...especially jfw. don't even get
me started LOL! either way, that's really my best suggestion.

Hi All,
Well since the release of 7.5.2 things are worse than ever.
I open an
email and W E just sits there and reads nothing. There is still a
problem with trying to edit a message that I'm composing in
WLM. Also,
now if I'm on a webpage and hit enter on an email link when
the blank
message comes up W E sees the To field as being empty..
However I did
verify through a sighted person that indeed the address was
in the To
field just that W E wouldn't read it. Now there is still
the problem
with spell check in word, which doesn't make sense because with JFW
and Nvda it works just fine. Why do we using W E have to do
all these
key strokes to use spell check when it has always been as simple as
tabbing once to the list of suggestions and arrowing to the one of
your choice and hitting enter. It still works that way with
the other two screen readers.
I've been a faitful W E user since 2003 and have recommended it to
many people. However now Im afraid that I can no longer do
so because
of the frustration that it causes. Unless some real fixes
take place
This will be the last version iof W E that I will be using.
It may be
$300 cheaper that it's major competitor but lack of ability
to use it
in an efficent manner out-weighs the cost.
