Actually pat you don't want it to go bye bye. If the brows mode buffer went
away you and I and all the other users of the web would be in trouble.
As I see it gw micro can do this three ways. The way they are doing it
allowing the user to decide when they need it and when they don't. having
window-eyes turn it on and off like the other screen readers do. Or having
a system that uses prefixes that in no way interrupts the normal activity of
the program being used.
The method that would be consistant with the way window-eyes is designed
over all is to have hot keys for brows mode that do not conflict or
interrupt the normal operation of the underlaying program. So think about
it this way. We have keys that control the reading of the insertion
pointer. We have keys that control the mouse pointer no need to turn on
and off modes now we would have keys that control the brows buffer. Of
course as you move the brows mode buffer using these keys the focus would
follow you with the browser. As you tab to options of course then the
buffer would follow the focus and tab would read out what ever it is the
brows mode buffer reads as you move to that control.
The nice thing about these three approaches is this is not either or. Gw
micro quite possibly could offer all three. A hot key system using prefixes
a system that let you the user turn it on and off as you wish. And a
system that trys to do all the thinking for you. I personaly am hoping for
the hot key approach
To do this gw micro would have to give us more modafiers prefix keys as
well as more agresive keyboard handeling. Witch of course it needs any way
as more and more apps come up needing more keyboard space. I posted a more
indeft message on this subject earlyer.

Subject: RE: WebAIM Survey on Screen Readers

Hi Jim and Everyone,

I appreciate your comments on everything you have said. I find it very
annoying to have to keep turning browse mode on and off when filling out a
form, such as the one I posted yesterday with the sleep study questions.

It will be wonderful when GW micro makes Window-Eyes not depend on Browse
mode. It's time for Browse mode to go bye bye. <smile>
