This is exactly what I found to be the difference Aaron.

I went into the browser settings and changed the auto load back to the
original to confirm this.  I think many are assuming that a page is going to
load at text or a link and therefore do not understand this concept.  It is
not really a problem just different for me.

But on Google, browse mode wouldn't automatically load, because focus is on
an edit box when the page comes up. So it makes sense that, on Google,
browse mode would be off so that you could immediately start typing. Is it
possible that's what you're experiencing on other pages? 
Is it possible that they're loading with focus on an edit box or some other
form control?
