I would recommend that you upgrade to 2007.  The ribbon isn't that bad once
you get the hang of it and there are key combinations for important things
like setting margins and the applications key still allows you to do some
things as well.

Don't know if the converter you need is still available.  Haven't used
Office 2003 for years.
