As I said in an off-list message to Mary, just rename the extension from .docx to .zip and unzip the file in the usual manner.

Numerous folders with subfolders will appear.

I recently received a .docx file containing photos which Word 2003 could not access. But, using the above method, the photos were located in one of the subfolders.

I can relate to that. The question then would be if the converter that
was spoken of earlier is still available.

Subject: RE: accessing docx files with Ms Word 2003

I appreciate the recommendation, but I thought I made myself clear. If
there is a way to keep using Ms2003 without having to fool with the
ribbon etc, that is what I want. I don't need recommendations to
upgrade. That is obviously a solution that is available if what I want
isn't there. But recommending that I do what I just said I didn't want
to do is really not helpful!!!

I would recommend that you upgrade to 2007. The ribbon isn't that bad
once
you get the hang of it and there are key combinations for important
things
like setting margins and the applications key still allows you to do some
things as well.

Don't know if the converter you need is still available. Haven't used
Office 2003 for years.
