I'll have to remember that trick. I have the converter and am sending or uploading to shellworld now. If anyone wants it, send me a note and I'll send you the link. I did have a strange one some time back. I have elected to have social security correspondence sent to me on cd. I got a docs file and I couldn't open it even with my converter, kept getting some strange error. I sent it to a friend of mine and all I had to do was rename the extension to a doc file. All social security did was create it with an older version of word and aparently they changed the file name. I did that and 03 read it fine without any conversion. Strange.....

As I said in an off-list message to Mary, just rename the extension from .docx to .zip and unzip the file in the usual manner.

Numerous folders with subfolders will appear.

I recently received a .docx file containing photos which Word 2003 could not access. But, using the above method, the photos were located in one of the subfolders.

I can relate to that. The question then would be if the converter that
was spoken of earlier is still available.

Subject: RE: accessing docx files with Ms Word 2003

I appreciate the recommendation, but I thought I made myself clear. If
there is a way to keep using Ms2003 without having to fool with the
ribbon etc, that is what I want. I don't need recommendations to
upgrade. That is obviously a solution that is available if what I want
isn't there. But recommending that I do what I just said I didn't want
to do is really not helpful!!!
