I am speaking for myself. I of course can't speak for anyone else. The fact
is though that if gw micro doesn't include touch very soon they will sees to
be relavent. The pc market is going down hill fast. Small touch and soon to
be jesture only devices is the wave of the future. Microsoft will have to come
out with a phone running windows pro. Windows phone 8 has been a flop it was
never designed to be anything else really. It was a stop gap measure tell the
desktop operating system was capable of running on a phone. We have reached
that point. If I can see it I am sure Microsoft sees it as well. I am also
sure the good people at gw micro realize what is happening also. There is no
business for gw micro on IOS or android. There only hope is to keep providing
window-eyes and find a way to get ahead of narrator NVDA and jaws. right now
they are behind. Three things need to happen for them to get ahead.
First touch. They need to support touch and they need to do it better then
the rest. The jestures need to be easyer. Smarter. Explore buy touch needs
to allow for restriction to avoid the problem of trying to explore a window and
finding your self on the desktop or some place you don't want to be. Smarter
touch needs to follow the focus it should be easy to set the type to what the
touch cursur moved to based on where the touch cursor is. Not fixing the order
that you can move to.
Here is an example.
Lets say the touch cursor is on a list box. So you flick down and you will here
move buy list box. Now flick right and you will be able to move to other list
boxes. If you would rather move buy list item flick down again and it will
say move touch cursor buy list item. If you do a scrub up and down it will
quickly move back to all items. Set restriction ok I am in the skype window.
I only want to explore the skype window. Two digit flick left or right will set
the restricktion. I should be able to set the restriction to what ever window
I nwant to that is on the screen as I said there buy avoiding the problem of
moving with explore buy touch out side of the window of interest. Of course I
should also be able to set restriction to full screen and focus window.
Changing modes. Avoid using a jesture like the rotter on IOs or jaws. use a
simple to digit flick up to move from mode to mode. In document mode for
example allow the user to use simple jestures to move the cursor or b
rows mode buffer. Once again use flick up and down to set how the cursor
should move and use left and right flick to move the cursor. Make the flick up
and down feature smart as described above. Two digit flick left or right
changes between text selection and normal cursor movement. Don't allow the
rotter to set options that are not possible. For example if there are no
headings available on the page or in the window don't allow the user to select
move buy heading. He can't do it so there is no point in giving him that
option at this point. When moving buy object make the speech out put that you
here while moving buy touch match the speech out put that you would here while
moving about with speech. When reviewing text in objects don't make a separate
mode for this just put it in the rotter as an option to read buy line etc.
there again flicking down or up should allow me to select what I want to read
buy. Configureation mode. Flicking with two digits up or down should take
me to a configuration mode. Once again two digits flicking left or right
should allow me to pick sub modes here as well so lets say I have a speech sub
mode in configuration mode I do a two digit flick left or right tell I land on
this mode then flicking up and down with one digit will allow me to pick what I
want to set and then flicking up or down will allow me to change that setting.
So lets say I want to change the rate I flick up or down tell it says rate.
Then I change the rate buy flicking right to make it higher and left to make it
lower. Would work like the speech setting do on the keyboard accept it would
have more options to control punctuation numbers voices etc. other modes of
configureation could be added as needed. While reviewing buy object for
goodness sake make the object review order match the order as it shows up on
the screen. For example the menu bar and the title bar should not be at the
bottom of the object review order.
2. ore aps. If another screen reader works with a program window-eyes should
work with it and do it better. For example lets take skype I give window-eyes a
2 out of the 3 major screen readers I have tested it with. Jaws is number 1
jaws reads skype alerts jaws works with skype no matter what mode skype is in
and finely jaws has scripts you can add that allows you to move about quickly
in the program. Window-eyes scores higher then NVDA though because you can
read messages easily again.app makers are going to need to be able to add
modes to touch. For example in skype you are going to need a skype mode that
will allow you to flick up to lets say messages and then flick right to read
the most recent messages. Or flick down to alerts and then flick left and
right to allow you to here the most recent alerts.
Then you have programs where window-eyes just doesn't work well at all. for
example gold wave. I wrote scripts for jaws to work with gold wave and I find
myself loading jaws to work there because I don't really want to have to script
it again just so I can use window-eyes there. So what I am saying is look at
how the other screen reader are doing it find ways of doing it better and give
us support for more apps.
3. fix brows mode, and try to find and smash any and all stability issues.
This is heading to the phone and it needs to be stable to insure that not only
your computing device is stable but your comunecation device is stable as well.
Yes I speak for my self. The hand writing is on the wall though and this is
what is needed if 3rd party screen readers are going to survive they have to
show they can get the job done better then the built in apps. Gw micro hears
the user they also see the trends as well as I do.

Ok gw micro we want touch we want touch we want touch come on every one say it
loud say it proud we want touch. I love my venue from del. I have been using
it exclusively as a touch device will connect a keyboard and install
window-eyes on it. for my money windows is always going to beat IOS as a
computing platform. I also think gw micro needs to hurry up with touch because
if I am reading the signs right it looks like we might have a phone running
windows pro. I will be all over that if that happens.
If it does maybe gw micro should talk to carryers offering the phone and see if
they will offer window-eyes on a payment plan along with the phone it self.
Narrator is getting better and NVDA is pretty good but window-eyes still has
them beet in most places.

Hi,
Simply put, Window-eyes runs on Windows 8.
A Windows 8 tablet that Window-eyes can run on is just a computer running the
full Windows 8, IE, desktop apps you have been running for years and are used
to work fine.

On my acer, I'm running Window-eyes 8.4 with traditional desktop apps such as
Microsoft office 2013, Chicken Nugget, MaPlEr, and even my livedrive backup
software.

I'm not able to interact with the touch screen, but a bluetooth keyboard works
just fine. My Acer even came with the bluetooth keyboard. I do not have a
Braille display but don't see why Window-eyes wouldn't work with a bluetooth
or usb display if configured.

Again, Window-eyes will not run on tablets running Windows RT. Windows RT does
not run on in tell based tablets nore does it have the full desktop so
traditional desktop apps will not work.

Hope this helps.
Chris
