Whoever told you that is full of it. I've used Window-eyes retail for
years but tried the office version for curiousity's sake. Except for
the inclusion of only MS Speech and Espeak, as well as limited support,
this is a full-functioning Window-eyes and yes hardware synths are
supported. Eloquence and Vocalizer synths are support but only after
purchasing authorizations for these synths.

I can assure you that the Window-Eyes for Office works with everything
Window-Eyes Retail works with.
The main difference is the support has to be paid for, and the speech synth is
either MicroSoft Platform or Espeak. I am not sure if you can use an external
synth with it as I have no serial port on this PC to try it on.
Again, though, there is no difference, as far as functionality goes.
