Peter, I have to assume they are going into the root directory. I think that, because you didn't mention they were going into a folder. Since you said it says "list of files, they would be root directory files.

What is happening is that file is just going to the list of
files, being added to the list of files, rather than into the
root directory.  Can I actually choose the root directory?

Peter, you would go to your file, press F 2.  Press X.  Press
Backspace so that you see Flash Drive.  Press dot 4 chord to see
your Secure Digital Card.  Press Enter.  Press V with Enter.
