Hi Terri:
I never use the speech on my BSP or the BrailleNote. I hate speech and
prefer Braille. The only reason why I use speech on my regular computer is
because it is far cheaper than Braille as I can't ever raise enough funds to
purchase a Braille display, <grin>! Similarly, I don't SHARE THE NOTES I
TAKE IN BRAILLE with anyone; these are strictly for my own personal
consumption and use! Print has never attempted to mimick Braille--for
example. If this were so, I ought to be able to MAKE SENSE of pictures in
Braille and graphics need not disappear when I port a printed document to my
BSP. For scientific notations, I can understand why certain Braille codes
may need to be changed. But I DO NOT FANCY deluging what has worked with
too much crap as the new Braille styles I keep hearing about seem to be
doing.
Why, for instance would there be an extra space in the word look(s) which
the BSP would write thus: look (dots 5-6s), leaving a space between the K
character, then an open parenthesis, dots 5-6 then s and a close
parenthesis. That is weird and I don't even believe that PRINT document
space words out that way. If this is truly a BANA rule, whoever authored it
has probably never read Braille or done too much with it, or at best, such a
one is trying hardest to make me less literate when it comes to spelling the
word in my example correctly.
