I believe you can do things like this, under script control, by using
Windows Media Player (via it's COM interface).
 
Last time I did a search, there were loads of low-cost activex controls for
playing/recording sound, if you didn't like having windows media player
running.

When using PlaySound in a script, is there a way to pause and resume playing
a sound?

I know I can use PlaySound with an empty string to stop the sound, but I
would like to pause the sound and then resume at the same place.
