On Kim's Sunday recovery ride I would suggest that we take a detour around
Shooting Club/Nipper on the way back to the park and go down Carpenter Pond
to Mt Vernon Church or perhaps turn off of Shooting Club onto Melvin Arnold
Rd., grab a beer at Bert's house, and then continue on to Mr. Vernon Church.
Shooting Club, which was in pretty bad shape before the snow, now has a ton
of unfilled potholes and the pavement is really a mess near Creedmoor Rd.
The DOT does have plans to completely repave Shooting Club, but that work
may not begin for several months.

Subject: [Gyros: 14903] weekend Ride Schedule 2-20-2010
G's
A Saturday without rain!!! The temps look to be in the upper 30s to low
40s at 9:00am. Looks to be a great day to get in the saddle so get out
and ride. Lets try and do what we planned for last weekend.
Here are the specs:
SATURDAY RIDE (2/13)
(A & A- GROUPS - Bert)
MEETING PLACE: Pleasant Union Elem. (PUE) - (Directions:
http://www.raleighgyros.com/locations.htm)
TIME: Saturday 2/13 @ 10:00am
RIDE DISTANCE: 50-55 miles (NO REST STOP UNLESS NEEDED)
PACE: 18mph
ROUTE: "Hells Route" We will cut out a couple of the hills to make the
route
between 50-55 miles.
CUE SHEET: http://www.raleighgyros.com/cue_sheets.htm
NOTES: We ride and work together as a group. We encourage county line
sprints.
We DO stop for mechanicals.
(B GROUPS - Maria)
Information to come but not sure from whom.
SUNDAY RIDE (2/14): (COLD WEATHER IS PREDICTED FOR SUNDAY SO LOOK FOR A
POSSIBLE
RIDE POSTPONEMENT NOTICE)
1. Kim's Recovery Ride leaves from Blue Jay Point @ 9am. (38 miles @
17-18mph
pace)
2. Mike's Gyro Touring Ride (cancelled for this Sunday
MONDAY RIDE:
Hal's Ride is cancelled for the season.
TUESDAY RIDE:
Rick's Ride cancelled (Temporarily)
WEDNESDAY:
Andy's Ride is cancelled for the season.
THURSDAY:
Dave's Ride is cancelled for the season.
All ride locations can be found on our website @
http://www.raleighgyros.com/locations.htm
THE PLAN:
One or more groups will leave with the intent of riding as a group at a
target
pace. We will try to cover the same routes, albeit a shorter distance for
the
slower group, so if you're struggling or want to ride at an easier pace,
you can
move back to a slower group. If you're already in the slowest group, the
ride
leader will check to make sure you can make your way back alone or with
another
volunteer. You'll know within the first 7 miles whether or not you're
strong
enough to maintain the pace. The general rule is that you should be able
to
maintain at least a 19+mph pace for the A Group, 18mph pace for 40-50
miles with
the B+ Group or a 16mph pace for 30-40 miles with the B Group, when
considering
which group to ride with. If you can not maintain these paces, then it is
suggested that you consider the C/B- Sunday ride. (Please refer to the
link
above).
Each group should make a concerted effort to keep the group together but
there
will always be those who want to pick up the pace on the return. It is
more
appropriate to do this the last 5-7 miles of a ride. The short hammer
sessions,
that are always inevitable during our rides, will not be affected.
