I need to clarify something. When I mentioned in my post on Monday that I was
hoping that some riders would go out on the "attack", some of you took this
literally and when out on "a-tack". (See, Steve and Donna...I can play the pun
game with the best of them...)

Based on feedback from Ty, Mark and Tom, and, after talking to Chris someone
did actually dumb, oops, I mean dump (pardon the parapraxia) a box of tacks
onto the street at what I believe was Coley and Kemp. It appears to have been
an intentional act.

Just as the cameras now turn away whenever some fan decides to run naked around
the ballpark on a nationally televised sporting event, I am not going to
dignify this person's action with a reaction of my own beyond these few words:
They would like nothing better than to know that their action had it's intended
effect: creating misery for others, i.e. cyclists. We handled this, and, we can
handle anything else that these misguided individuals throw our way. We are
cyclists, damn it!! We handle adversity and we enjoy pain; in fact, we seek it
out! Any sane person on a bike would avoid mountains. We travel hours seeking
them out. Why? Why else...to suffer.

A few tacks in the road? Come on...is that all you got?

Ok. On with the report.

I arrived late yesterday so I timed my ride to catch the group coming up the
Doc. As they approached I was certain that it was the lead pack because I saw
Logan at the front dictating the pace, and, I received a very friendly "hey
Rick!" from Keil (you would have thought that he would have been out of
breath!). I also saw Steve, and about 5 others (sorry guys...you went by too
fast).

I kept in the opposite direction to catch the rest of the group, but, that was
it! It looks as though we lost at least 4 riders to mechanicals, and others
might have been influenced by the threat of rain.

I did catch Logan in the parking lot and he stated that they averaged 22.5.
This ride had quality over quantity since it had some of our very best riders.
These guys can ride with any group in the area and hold their own.

Stay safe out there, and, please keep in mind that we change the finishing
stretch next week. Instead of turning onto Olive Branch we will head to Kemp;
right on Coley; and left on Carpenter Pd. to the Grove. Only the select few
will be in the front group next week!

Rick
