Flax fibers (linen) have a somewhat bamboo looking shape. You get the bamboo like segments and when viewed in cross section there is actually a dark looking (hollow?) centre like bamboo has. Other bast fibers (ramie, hemp), also look like bamboo, but they are much less commonly found in yard goods.
