You'd go ape in theatre or film where costumes just made are regularly
"distressed " [theatre term] or "teched" [film term]. I can't tell you how many
brand new garments I've taken cheese graters and palm sanders to! Not to mention
the painting and spatter dying.
No, actually, in a theatre environment, it wouldn't bother me at all--
there's a motivation there for trying to create "aged" clothes in a
short amount of time. For SCA wear, though, what I prioduce is not a
theatre costume-- it's clothes. They will wear out in their own time
without anyone chopping random holes in them and sewing patches on. And
the person who asked the question was asking how to save her mouldy
chemise, not how to hasten it's demise.
