Hi all,
I need some help with making hoods for (fantasy) cloaks, such as often appear
in the movies like Lord of the Rings etc. I've searched though the internet and
I found really a few, the only pattern I tried was one by Randall Whitlock -
the page I got it from doesn't work any more - it looked like the hood on this
web page: http://home.clara.net/arianrhod/Aldebaran/DoItYourself/Cloak02.html
but instead of 33 cm it was 45 and instead of 26cm 45 again and there was no
rounding, the hood was pointed. But that one was not what I wanted. It was not
so wide and it was sort of standing out from the neck, I mean the hood was not
partly lying on the shoulders, as often seen.
I'm just asking if you have any experiences about that and if you have any
idea how the patterns of the hoods here on the web pages could look like. One
thing that suprised me was that I found that Galadriel's hood was of a
semi-circular pattern, where the curved part was gathered to the neck opening.
But it looks quite wide, I must say.

What do you think about gathering? Can you make a wide hood without it?
