To get a full size scale of the pattern, depending of wich size you want, it has to be blown up to something between 400 and 500 %

I suspect very strongly that this is trapunto work, not embroidery as such. A Danish friend of mine has a waistcoat embroidered in a very similar style, and of the same date. I have photos of it in close-up, and of the back, and you can see where the candlewick ends are left.
