Hi Saragrace
I just finished a similar outfit, and had a french farthingale underneath.
I had started out with a flat boned article, held with a bolster about 1/2
the diameter of the circle I wanted (depth?). This I was later convinced
wouldn't work, and so sewed a large casing to the outside of the flat
farthingale and stuffed it with cotton. I ended up wearing two bolsters.
You can see the flat farthingale and the first bolster on my website under
'Estela's Projects' I hope to have the website updated soon with the
finished pieces.
The web address is www.goldenoakinn.com/projects_estela.htm
Let me know if this helps and if you have any other questions. I will love
to see your finished project!
Kelly

Subject: [h-cost] French Farthingale construction tips?
Hi all, as you may know already, I am re-creating this gown for the Phoenix
Art Museum. http://tinyurl.com/y6phle<http://tinyurl.com/y6phle>
I think the bolster type French Farthingale would be most appropriate - (
like those in the oft sited French Dutch caricature). Have any of you
constructed this type? How did you approach it?
I started with a softly stuffed tube which gave a reasonable silhouette, but
I'd like to hear what you have been successful with.
Robin? I know you have done this - but didn't see any construction details
in your posts.
Thanks,
Sg
