My persona is Irish. I'll be doing body
puppeteering at a Renaissance faire, so
I don't think any patrons (except SCA
folks) are going to notice or care if I
have drawstrings at my wrists. Honestly,
I just don't want to shell out for a
pattern on top of the material I've
already bought; I'm not just making this
costume, but I'm also working on my
wedding gown. I've made several
shifts/chemises over the years, but never
one like this.

Thanks for the links; I've scoured them
pretty thoroughly and haven't found
anything about how the leine closed at
the wrist. Maybe I'll just say the heck with
it and put in drawstrings. Like I said, I
don't know if anyone will notice. :) Thanks
again.

Kind of depends on what you are doing this for. Scottish, Irish? How accurate are you trying to be? Also, there is no absolute evidence for how they were made....

There are several decent starting summaries online, but depending on what you are doing this for, you may want to do your own research.

Here are a few.
