-1. IRC is great for chit-chatting. Mailing Lists are great for conversations. Besides, IRC logs aren't easily parsable by humans, and by the very nature of IRC often have several conversations on top of each other, including OT spam and not a few 'I'll be in my trailer, come knocking when you want to take this seriously' [AngryMan51 left the channel] incidents. A mailing list requires more thoughtful discourse, and is quite frankly more my forté than IRC, which has to much time wasted sitting around waiting for people to answer a question, decide on something or whatever. A Mailing list is fire and forget, and is much more adjusted to the way I go about my life. You kill the mailing list, you kill kittens.
