The serial <-> usb adapter is not the issue - we already bought one of those for our existing Garmin for $US 15 here; what's tricky is the proprietary garmin interface (round with 4 pins). On the Garmin website they're selling them for ~ $60, which is close to half the cost of the GPS unit!
