I don't know whether it hidden or destroyed.  I'll check the next time I have 
to boot Windows XP (I will probably have to run Windows once some time this 
week).

Meanwhile, I don't want to modify the CPRS source code.  I just want to get the 
standard binary to run under wine.

Is the window hidden, or is it hidden and destroyed? I know this is Java and 
not Delphi, but here is an example showing how I code a splash screen 
(obviously, in a real application, I'd do initialization work while the splash 
screen was displayed, and not just sleep for 2 seconds):
