I don't use Norton A/V anymore but there used to be a setting that protected
against macros being executed or written to Word....something like that.
Could it be that it may be activated, if you are using a version of NAV, and
blocking any permanent changes?

Subject: [H] Word problems
I am using Word in Office PRO 2003. Over the years I created a few macros
and a launch menu for them in Word. Most of them do nothing more then open
a document. When I do a new install or a upgrade, I have always just copied
my normal.dot into the template folders, and when I launch, there is my
menu and macros. When I use the normal dot on different PCs I may have to
change the paths to the documents I am opening.
It has been a few versions since I wanted to change anything but now I
want to remove macro, add a new one with a new name on the menu. I can do
all this, it all works fine, but as soon as I shut down and restart it
either goes back to what it was, in the case of a menu name change, or if
I remove and add a new macro it goes back to Word defaults, my menu is
there but will standard Word appetites named.
It is not just the Macro, but the name in the menu that won't stick. I am
logged in as a administrator. I have tried loading and saving
normal.dot.... BTW normal.dot appears as a blank document?? I have reduced
Macro Security to low. I have even tried creating everything from scratch
with a new install thinking that normal.dot is corrupt.... but nothing
works.
I have none of these problems in Excel. Word will let me make other
permanent changes that involve using it's own appellants, and I can
install things like Acrobat and it lets it install it's macros, but not
me. Not only can I not change my own macros, but I can't even change the
name of a macro on the menu I created. Well I can, but when I reload it
is gone.
This is a problem that I haven't had before, so it must have something to
do with 2003 permissions and security.
I have none of these sorts of problems with Excel. Anybody know why Word
won't let me change the menu name or add macros.
