Well, it is difficult to find a third party reviewer that recommends upgrading to Vista from XPPro. PCMag, PCWorld, Maximum PC are all advising to stay with XP for a variety of reasons. The security in Vista is annoying, there are real driver issues, there are stability issues, there are DRM issues, and DirectX 10 is a long way from panning out... and that is just hitting the major points.

so with all the different flavors which one compares to xp pro for usability ?

I have run Ultimate and now business ( test box only ) so I have no real opinions yet having not played with any of the basics. I know I hate XP Home but for the normal user it is fine. Retail is too expensive and the EULA on OEM kind of sucks.

Have to rebuild a box for a customer in Oklahoma ( stolen ) and can not make up my mind as to put his copy of XP ( genuine ) back in or move up to one of the V flavors. How is MS doing on SW compatibility now. Mine are only running basic stuff, no real extra's.

Having done a clean install yesterday and spending A LOT of hours doing updates ( customer home box from a system restore ) I wonder if it is not time for him to just bite the bullet with the rest of us.
