Yes, the modem become transparent and the router does
the PPoE negotiation to 
Verizon, thus the router's WAN is your live IP same as
a cable modem setup would 
be. Difference of course is the cable co ships their
modems configured to 
auto-negotiate AND pass (bridge) the live IP to the
CPE so you use DHCP on the 
router WAN, but with DSL bridge you use PPoE mode on
the router WAN.

Stupid implementation decision on DSL's part if you
ask me! Plus using PPoE 
lowers your router WAN MTU to 1492.
