A friend has been given a circa 2005-6 Dell Inspiron 700m. It is a nice little ultra light, in great condition and will be a great laptop for her needs. The previous owner had installed some junk, AOL, which is embedded worse then a virus, and lots of spyware.A online Karparsky scan reveals about sixty infected files and 25 threats..Not so much, but I am thinking it is probably easier to just restore it back to it's original factory condition and then remove Norton internet security which is expired in 07 ,and all the other stuff Dell put on it to slow it down.

I would do this with the Dell Restore windows program right .. just start it up and let it go? When it finishes will it boot up like a new laptop where I put in the new user and passwords etc. Will windows make me re-certify? How dos that work?

Or is there a way to clean it up I can be sure about?

It only has a half a gig of ram. Anybody have any PC2700 DDR SODIMM sitting around in your junk pile you want to sell?
