Well I may have to do this after all. One of the viruses seems to
have seriously effected the Intel wireless adapator to the point
where I can not load the driver. I don't have the Dell disk, nor any
hope of getting it, but I do see the i386 directory on the C drive.
Will that work? Just install from the hard drive with the key and
then online activation... or will I have to call and explain to MS?
I may have to take you up on that offer Chris.

I literally used my Dell XP SP2 and SP3 CD's to rebuild my Dell D600's
dozens of times when playing with different Linux distros last year..
I was doing a rebuild a week at times, and the Dell OEM CD always
loaded, never needed activation, and worked just fine. :)
Any dell restore media will work, as long as it has a dell BIOS.
If you want I can backchannel a copy of a restore disk if you need
one. I'm ok with doing that because it will refuse to install on a
non-dell system.
