Rewiring my new *cave* b4 sheet rock and decided to go ahead and run cat5 to the corner of the cave closest to the house. Not going to run to the house at this time. How do I splice cat5 ?

go to radio shack and buy a inline connector. Then put normal jacks on the ends of the CAT5e and plug them together. Wouldn't be a bad idea to do this in a accessible junction box.

My thoughts are a low voltage box on the outside wall but surely I can not just put jack there. Also thought of just poking thru and putting the jack on the inside. Or maybe just leave enough coiled outside to make the run.

Is there a direct bury cat 5 cable. ?

I doubt it....there is a weather proof cable, but that is not the same thing.

Distance to house is only maybe 20'. Have setup a bridge router but figure eventually need /want to hard wire.

for just 20 feet why not just put it in buried 1.5 inch electrical PVC. A bigger pipe will make it easy to pull the sweeps ( NOT elbows) and you can easily add something else later if you wish, like coaxial. You might consider buying some of that all in one cable..... = phone, CAT5e, coaxial, fiber optic. Very expensive but it is just 20 feet....and if you measured 20 feet buy 40 feet.
