I'm not sure I get the exact setup here...but if you wanted something for easy 
temporary access to HDs, I've got this and it's pretty awesome:

It does both 3.5" and 2.5" drives, which is cool, though I'd've gotten this if 
I'd known about it (for easy copying from one 3.5" HD to another which has come 
up more than once as I migrate from old, smaller HDs to newer, bigger ones) :
