Don't do the updates. Just install Windows, the NIC driver (doesn't
matter how old) and the Printer driver.
I could disable the current on-board RealTek Gbit NIC, and, install an
Intel Gbit NIC card (GT Pro/1000)! I have never really been too warm to
the RealTek on-board NIC of this ASUS m/b. I've lived with it because it
came with the P5Q3 m/b. Finding up2date drivers from ASUS or RealTek
has been a constant PITA!
The NIC isn't the problem, I'm sure. Realtek is fine for basic use.
