Thane,
Thanks. Understand 'class' now. Will use it and see.
I sort of agree with 'printer problem.' However, Brother TS says NO!
Please speak to MS!
I'd like to prove a bad printer NIC and/or Print server before I do
battle with the local
Service shop.
I can ping the printer via assigned IP addy from any of my LAN PC clients.
I can also connect to the printer (over my LAN) via any client's web
browser via HTTP.
(?think Brother calls this Admin Lite?) It is cute, and, much faster
then their very
bloated and buggy Admin Pro v3.4x!
At the moment I can NOT create a MS standard tcp/ip port for this printer.
The MS Wizard says '..unknown type' on its' new to me intercept window
(after a long
hourglass period) after I enter the printer's assigned IP addy. It is
like I've gone brain-
dead since learning how to create a 'standard tcp/ip port' via MS
logic! I have been
doing this since 2008 (my old Canon InkJet!).
I remain patient, confused, and frustrated.
Thank you,
Duncan

Can you define a difference between 'Class' and 'Device?'
I sorta understand 'Device' as true hardware, logic chips, something
I can put fingers on. 'Class' to me is an unknown!
Class just means "All Ghosts under this heading" like all ghosts in
Network Adapters.
There are no /Printer/ entries in GB ATM because I can NOT install a
standard
tcp/ip port for a printer. I now chronically get a new Wizard window
that
tells me the printer's print server is now of and "unknown type".
I can interpret this to mean that the printer (post power outage) no
longer knows what it is(?).
If none of the computers will print to the printer, then it's clearly
a printer problem. I'm guessing the network card has failed. Are you
surge suppressing all power and data feeds?
