As Cheryl Banks notes, since we consider the timing of ALA Annual
Conference before selecting dates for AJL Annual Convention because many
AJL members also regularly attend the former, we haven't always held AJL
Annual on Father's Day, although it often is the case.

Since I'm not a day school librarian, perhaps it's not fair for me to
interject my opinion, but again as Cheryl and others have noted, we have
asked members in the past about trying different dates and for many
reasons, all other alternatives vis-a-vis dates for Convention have, I
believe, been rejected.

I've only been an AJL member for 15 years, so I cannot relate what the
history behind the minhag of the the usual June Convention dates is, but
after attending every single AJL Annual for the last 15 years, I find the
dates to be very convenient and wouldn't want them altered greatly without
compelling reasons from a substantial majority of the membership.

Again, as Cheryl says, if such a survey were to be taken, it should not
be via Hasafran, but I would like to note that I am quite satisfied with
the dates for Convention that we have had since I joined, and I vote for
not changing them except as we have by one week now and again when we
would otherwise conflict with ALA, which doesn't happen too often.
