Sharon's book received AJL's Reference Book award several years ago. It's a gem
and I'm glad to hear it's in its second edition.

And the Guide to Yiddish Short Stories that Larry Yudelson mentioned is also a
gem. It was co-published by AJL.

I find both extremely useful for our rabbinical students who are always in
search of the perfect story.

Yes!. It's Bontche Schweig or Bontche (Bontsha or Bontshe) the Silent
depending on translator. The story was written by I.L. Peretz. There are
well-wrought versions in The Seven Good Years and The Case Against the Wind,
both translated by Esther Hautzig. It also appears in Ausubel's ATreasury of
Jewish Folklore. And, there are both oral and online versions on Jewish Short
Stories from Eastern Europe and Beyond.

P.S. It's listed in the new, expanded 2nd ed of The Jewish Story Finder, which
has just been released.

        Hi,

I am trying unsuccessfully to remember the name of a wonderful short
story by a Yiddish writer. The story concerns a poor humble,naïve, man who,
upon reaching the gates of heaven, is asked what he would like most. He answers
that a nice, warm roll in the morning would be wonderful. I think the story is
called Bunchee Swag (pardon my Yiddish!) - Any ideas?
