Finishing my thought... This means that you may have to read an additional key
that you otherwise would not have had to. Another option would be to add two
additional return codes, but my thought is that 6 is more than enough as is and
in general (when we'd return 3, not 4) we'll need to continue scanning anyways
to read in all the deletes.
