I tested Jakob's patch. My observations are:
1) Doesn't work with ant-1.7.1. Works with ant-1.8.2
2) While compiling hive, fails to untar hadoop-0.20.3-CDH3-SNAPSHOT.tar.gz so,
I have to manually install it to make it go through. Didn't dig into it, may be
related to my environment.
3) 3 tests failed: TestPermsGrp, TestPermsInheritance, TestHCatNonPartitioned.
I looked into those and none of them seems to be related to build mechanism. We
have to fix them separately.
4) It would be nice to have svn propedit step automated as part of building.
I think we can checkin this patch now. It will be a step forward from not
building to broken build : ) which we can fix incrementally. Also, it will help
me generate proper patch for HCATALOG-3
