Sorry for the delay in replying. My original comment was in reference to this 
statement

I was under the impression that there were incompatible changes in the trunk. 
If that is not true, I stand corrected. 
A quick search thru JIRAs show that we have been catching and fixing the 
incompatible changes, and hopefully 3.x will arrive in a better shape and not 
DOA. For some reason, I was under a mistaken impression that trunk was place 
where lots of incompatible changes were dumped. I  see that Andrew recently 
checked in a compatibility checking script and if we are not finding any 
incompatibility that is great. My original statement was not something based on 
facts, more based on the gut feeling, my apologies for that.
