Daryn Sharp commented on HDFS-11246:
------------------------------------
Yes, yes, yes, I would love this to go in. Users are increasingly spamming
write ops like setPermission/setOwner in their jobs that generate ACEs and
waste cycles audit logging in the lock. It's a big patch so I won't have
cycles to look at it until next week due to prepping for kms/rpc deploy.
> FSNameSystem#logAuditEvent should be called outside the read or write locks

> {code}
> readLock();
> boolean success = true;
> ContentSummary cs;
> try {
> checkOperation(OperationCategory.READ);
> cs = FSDirStatAndListingOp.getContentSummary(dir, src);
> } catch (AccessControlException ace) {
> success = false;
> logAuditEvent(success, operationName, src);
> throw ace;
> } finally {
> readUnlock(operationName);
> }
> {code}
> It would be nice to have audit logging outside the lock esp. in scenarios
> where applications hammer a given operation several times.
