Hello all,

I was looking through all the Google Summer of Code project ideas when
the "structured binary data editor" idea jumped out at me. I'm very
interested in this idea, as I've thought about writing such a tool
before when playing with various filesystems and file formats. It could
be a very widely useful project if implemented well.

My proposal (as a very early draft) is publicly available at
https://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/proposal/review/google/gsoc2012/wtachi/27005
and as I add more detail I'd appreciate any suggestions or criticism of
my proposal. This project idea requires more design than most of the
others, so there will be more to review.

I've already made a few small improvements to HelenOS.
lp:~wtachi/helenos/sleep implements bdsh/sleep and
lp:~wtachi/helenos/python3 makes a few scripts work with Python 3 as
well as Python 2. I intend to make another improvement or two by Friday.

There's one question I'd like to ask about your approach to GSoC. How do
you most frequently communicate with students? I checked the mailing
list archives for 2011 and I see only occasional student updates.

Thanks,
Sean Bartell
