There are several writable filesystems supported by HelenOS. I believe what Jiri was saying is that currently when you build HelenOS, you get an ISO image that runs from a RAM disk and so when you reboot, all data written to that RAM disk are lost. You can also mount a filesystem from a normal disk, such as ATA or USB mass storage, make modifications, unmount and the data will be there for the next mount.
