That hit me, too. It came from (set-xorg-configuration ...) earlier.
After removing that, it worked.

That meant that I lost my keyboard setup (setting the xorg-configuration
elsewhere didn’t work), but reconfigure worked again.

I think a path forward would be a desktop file with emacs (or a binary
as the one I use ☺), but I’m not sure about the best way to configure
that in slim (without using auto-login).
