Oh wicked! I love Go! Thank you for your work on it!
I'm on the mailing list (most recently, asking about getting type info out
of the SQL database adapters). Odds-are most of what I'm going to be
building in future will be in Go, I just can't abide javascript, Python's
stalled, and *way* back in the day I was very into Occam. Edinburgh
Parallel Computing Center was where I was heading, if I hadn't gotten
dragged sideways, wound up in 3D graphics, video games and then the web
(and, you know, then Rocky Mountain Institute and the rest just happened.)
In a year or so, I want a hexayurt camp simulator - something that does
agent-based modelling of a notional camp that we could get a sense of what
various technologies (water filter A vs. water delivery system B) might
look like. It's kinda blue-sky now, but I think there's a ton of room for
simulation to help prove the concepts, and I want to collect data in a
fairly intensive way from the first camp.
If you come across anybody at Google that would be interested in thinking
about that, let me know. There's an amazing humanitarian opportunity to
wire the camps, connect people with their relatives outside of the problem
area, bring in relevant knowledge resources ("quick diagnostics: does your
kid need to go to the medical center?", "how do I get an exit visa?") and
so on.
We already count the hexayurts from satellite data (is there a 2013 image
yet?), but imagine... well, you get the general idea.
