FYI - I used to work in medical research and 20+ years ago used ether as an
anesthesia for animals. It is highly flammable, easily evaporates and
heavier than air, so it's use is now highly discouraged by fire departments
and laboratory safety folks. For the purposes of anesthesia there are much
better alternatives available now. Rubbing alcohol or isopropyl alcohol is
completely different and much safer. I have no idea what works better for
the purposes of cleaning your wheel but what is called ether is the US is
probably impossible for the average person to get. Ether is apparently
used in the production of Methamphetamine so I am going to guess it is very
tightly controlled in the US for both safety and drug reasons. Justine
