Don and everyone,
My hg deals with humidity pretty well, it just can't take dryness. That's why I use a dampit when it's dry.
A few keys stick occasionally in extreme humidity, and here's what I do. I take the key out and rub candlewax on it (a substance known as paraffin wax here in the states I think, but let's not get into that.) This lets it slide easier. Also, I made the holes that the key slides through just slightly larger, with sandpaper. (But I hear that you have to be careful not to make the hole so much larger that the key rattles in dryness.) No, I don't know what grit the sandpaper was.
I think my hg was built in a damp environment, so it's ideal for dampness, and in dryness, I compensate with a dampit. I think that's better than a hg built in dryness, since it's harder to compensate for dampness.
I generally don't amplify
my hg, or when I do I use someone else's sound system. But for amplifying my cumbus, my battery-powered maxi mouse amp gives a very clean faithful sound for something so small and portable. It also does a good job on electric cello.

Hi Ivan-
I play through a small (cube shaped) E.A.R. amp 6 nights a week at
the Four Seasons on Maui. It's the best sound reinforcement I've ever
used on my violin, and I started performing live with an Italian rock
band in 1972. I haven't tried my HG through it (currently unplayable
due to humidity overload) but I have heard acoustic guitar through it
as well, and it sounds GREAT. My violin and the guitar both are
captured with Full Fidelity, bass, mid and high all beautifully
expressed. It's a big investment, but worth every penny...
If anyone has a secret for HG's to cure them from humidity overload,
I'd love to hear about it... I can't even press the keys because the
wood has swollen too much...
Thanks, and Aloha-
Don
