As it's coming time to replace strings, just wondering if there is a
recommended size for the various strings (rather than just "violin" or
"cello" and which string) as there seems to be quite a variation in what is
available. I'm sure that there must be an optimum thickness amongst that
lot. (HG Tuned C/G - trompette, Gross and petit bourdons and two unison
chantrelles).
I have always just asked for "set of violin strings please - cheapest you
have" for the old fiddle (well, I don't really play). I think the gurdy
deserves better than that
I'm sure it's been asked many times but I can't find it anywhere (I really
have looked, honest).
Please also refresh memory if I should get harder or softer rosin (shame on
me, still using the block I got free with a violin case 15 years ago - no
idea what it is - plain wrapper!!! - couldn't cope with liquid at this
stage.).
Thanks,
Colin Hill
